Gravity Creating Social Value

Creating Social Value

Gravity has an Environmental and Social Governance policy and is committed to working with local communities and businesses to create social value locally.

Creating Social Value

We are at the start of our journey to transform and regenerate the site and will provide a ESG report annually to summarise and communicate our progress.

This will set out our response to our commitments in the Gravity Skills and Business Charters. Gravity is proud of its ongoing commitment to provide opportunities to local communities; Gravity actively recruits and retains local people from Sedgemoor, Somerset and the wider South West, as well as utilises the knowledge and experience of locally-based businesses.

Promoting Innovation

Gravity forms part of the 5G Logistics project which will demonstrate the benefits of the technology through the development of 5G products and services supporting operations and between Bristol Port and Gravity.

The 5G Logistics project is being delivered by a consortium led by West of England Combined Authority (WECA) which was one of thirty three such projects funded through the Department for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport (DCMS).

Gravity is proud to of collaborated with a host innovative companies from across the South West on this project.

Local Businesses & Organisations

A project with scale of Gravity would not be feasible without the incredible insights and support provided by local businesses as part of the wider Gravity network. From cleaning services and catering to tree surgeons and site management, Gravity has and continues to utilise and champion local businesses.

Local People

Behind every local business are the dedicated individuals that help it to succeed and grow. We are proud to name just some of the faces that form part of that wider Gravity family.

Work Experience

Gravity are hosting work experience opportunities for University of the West of England students in Planning.

Inspiring and equipping young people

Gravity is working closely with Bounce Forward. A charity specialising in building psychological fitness in children, young people, and the adults around them. They work with schools, teachers and parents across the UK, providing the tools and training to build a young persons mental resilience and emotional intelligence so they thrive in life.

Bounce Forward & MOBIE

Bounce Forward collaborated with MOBIE in delivering Gravity's 'Young persons’ design challenge for schools in and around Bridgwater.

The challenge asked young people to let their imaginations run free by designing an innovative and inspirational green place with jobs and homes that meets the changing needs of future generations, including promoting well-being, quality of life and healthy ageing.

With funding and support from Gravity, Bounce Forward is working in partnership with schools in the local area and responding to local need, including their evidence-based “Healthy Minds” programme for secondary schools which is being implemented by both Bridgwater College Academy and Haygrove School.

They have trained a number of teachers who are now certified Psychological Fitness Teachers as well as delivering a Raise Resilience course for parents in the area.

Feedback

The overwhelming response from teachers has been extremely positive with a consensus that their training was useful and that the skills gained will be of significant help in the future.

Inspiring local talent into STEM

Gravity is partnering with Bridgwater United Football Club and Community Sports Trust in launching the Gravity Sphero provision using Sphero Sports Robots, an innovative STEM education tool.

The Gravity Sphero project launch marks the next step in our work, offering an innovative way for children and young people in the local area to learn coding and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) skills, supporting the delivery of the national curriculum.

Gravity is proud to enable Bridgwater United FC to become the only UK Non-League football club and the only club in the South-West Region to offer this innovative programme.

This exciting new project, combines innovative technologies and sport to combat the recognised international shortage of STEM skills and young people going into STEM Careers – the STEM Gap.

In its first 2 terms since launch, the initiative has reached 500+ children across 10 locations. Several schools have introduced afterschool clubs for students who have expressed interest to expand their learning outside of classroom sessions.
